Celebrating 27 Years of Cycling Excellence

Le Tour de Langkawi is a multiple-stage bicycle race held in Malaysia conceived by Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir, with the objective of placing Malaysia on the world sporting and tourism map. Held since 1996, the race usually begins in Langkawi and includes major landmarks such as Genting Highlands and Dataran Merdeka. The race is now sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as a ProSeries under UCI three-tier race structure and is among the biggest races in Asia. The race regularly attracts top teams from the across the globe as well as national teams from a number of European and Asian countries. LTdL 2022, slated to run from 11-18 October 2022. The race celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2020, since its inaugural 2.6-ranked race held in 1996.

A popular sport that has become a lifestyle amongst Malaysians, the 24th edition slogan - Sports Unite, Cycling Contributes - seeks to emphasise the importance of unity via the sport of cycling. It is much more than just a cycle race. The theme defines and promotes the people and masses to “ride together’ regardless of their ideologies, race and background in the spirit of unity and camaraderie. It is about creating Passion, Excitement, Unity and a sense of Pride of participating in yet another renowned international event.


To be the premier cycling event that encourages unity amongst the world’s sports fraternity.


  • To garner support and foster unity among the general public and masses by promoting cycling as a lifestyle sports.

  • To continuously attract top teams from the WorldTour Team category as well as leading Pro Continental, Continental and national teams from Europe, America, South America and Asia and continue to maintain the 2.0HC status

  • To put Malaysia on the world map for competitive cycling via sports tourism by promoting destinations along the route and encourage economic growth to the local communities.
